Feature Review:
1408: This is an entertaining movie based on the Stephen King short story. John Cusack plays a writer staying in a haunted hotel room. It isn't particularly scary although is well paced and will keep your interest. A bit insignificant in the big scheme of things. Rated PG-13. Also starring Samuel Jackson.

Rescue Dawn: Christian Bale stars in the this film from the accomplished director Werner Herzog. It is about a soldier caught behind enemy lines in Vietnam. The visuals are fantastic and the story moves along a brisk pace. The biggest complaint I have is that it isn't very special - we've seen this type of film a number of times. Rated R.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer: This comic book sequel is marginally better than the first installment. If you're 14 years old you'll be entertained. For the rest of us it is hard to sit through the corny humor and the mostly lame dialogue, especially from the Invisible Woman, sorry Alba fans. The only saving grace is The Silver Surfer, himself, who is way too cool for the rest of this flick. Rated PG.

Day Watch: A Russian fantasy action blockbuster marketed as "the first film of the year", opened in theatres across Russia on January 1, 2006 and will open in the U.S. on June 1, 2007. It is a sequel to the 2004 film Night Watch, featuring the same cast. It is based on a novel by Sergey Lukyanenko. The film's budget was USD$4.2 million and was expected to gross $40 million in Russia alone. - from Wikipedia.
This film is a blast! If you liked the first installment you'll find this one even funnier and more action packed. It is hard to believe that it cost less than 5 million to make. In the states it would have cost at least 50 million. My only complaint is the story relies too much on something called The Chalk of Fate - a destiny changing MACGUFFIN that makes a lot of the story irrelevant. Still - this is a great ride. A final installment is set to open next year. Rated R for violence.
